OurNursesSonBravas® y Bravos
Honoring the bravery and dedication of Hispanic and multicultural nurses who heal communities every day, OurNursesSonBravas® y Bravos was launched in 2020 by gadMCinc® and distributed by Semilla Multicultural™.
In 2022, the initiative expanded with OurNursesBravasSanasySalvas™. It highlighted mental wellness, self-care, and the inspiring stories of nurses navigating COVID-19 while supporting their families.
For Hispanic Heritage Month 2025, the initiative presents Nuestra Herencia Sana (“Our Heritage Heals”), celebrating the courage, dedication, and healing power of Hispanic and multicultural nurses. "Nuestra Herencia Sana emphasizes that healing is more than a profession—it is a cultural legacy. By celebrating nurses’ dedication and heritage, the campaign reinforces OurNursesSonBravas® y Bravos’ commitment to equity, community well-being, and workforce development."
This ongoing platform also serves as a bridge to the future—sharing powerful testimonials from Nurses Bravas who have been on the frontlines of major U.S. health crises, from HIV to COVID-19, inspiring Hispanic students to consider careers in nursing.
As founder Gabriela ‘Gaby’ Alcantara-Diaz explains:
"Growing up in a family devoted to healthcare and inspired by my mamá brava, I’ve seen firsthand how storytelling can educate, inspire, and empower. That’s why I created OurNursesSonBravas® y Bravos—to elevate the voices, stories, and cultural wisdom of Hispanic nurses, highlighting their dedication, mentorship, and impact across the nation, with a special focus on South Florida.”

NursesBravasSanasySalvas™
OurNursesSonBravas® y Bravos launched NursesBravasSanasySalvas™ to honor the courage and support the mental wellness of Hispanic and multicultural nurses on the frontlines of COVID-19. The campaign invited nurses to share their experiences balancing patient care, family responsibilities, and self-care, highlighting the challenges affecting their overall health and well-being.
To provide practical support, Semilla Multicultural and community partners offered mental health resources, including:
A special thank you goes to our sister agency Semilla Multicultural, integrative public health nurse, researcher, and educator Caroline E. Ortiz RN MS MPH NC-BC, organizational mindfulness consultant Dr. Stephanie Palacios, Psy.D., M.F.T., and founder of Health Journeys, Belleruth Naparstek ACSW, BCD, for their dedication to the wellbeing of our communities of color.
“Yisel Bell has led the effort during these difficult times, supporting and providing her knowledge and wisdom to provide for those in need. Yisel has placed herself in the line of fire, motivating our team to continue thriving for success in this endless story of a devastating pandemic. Honor must be given to these heroes, who face this COVID-19 pandemic head-on and never once back away from providing quality care for our community and those in need.”
